External battery

An external battery can be connected to J13. Pin 1 is positive, pin 4 is negative. The motherboard does not attempt to charge a connected battery, so non-rechargeable batteries can be used.

The manual does not state the battery voltage range, however if the motherboard uses a Dallas DS12885Q RTC chip then the datasheet for this chip specifies the battery voltage must be between 2.5 and 4.0V.
